How Lighting Affects the Mood of your Bathroom

August 1, 2018

The bathroom is one of the most important rooms in your house; it should feel comfortable and welcoming. Part of what helps set the tone of a room is the lighting.

Today we’re going to walk through how lighting can change the ambiance of your bathroom. Let’s dive in.

How Lighting Affects the Mood of your Bathroom

What is Task Lighting?

Task lighting is lighting that is specifically designed to give you some light while you are performing tasks. In the bathroom, task lighting usually refers to the lighting around your bathroom mirrors or vanity.

Vanity lighting can be a little tricky, because you want to make sure that the light is hitting your face at the most flattering and informative angles. This usually means you should avoid putting lights directly above the vanity, else there will be deep shadows on your eyes, chin, and nose.

Instead opt for lighting on the sides of the mirror so you can gaze at your reflection with confidence.

Ambient Lighting Adds a Lot to Your Bathroom.

Light fixtures around your mirrors probably aren’t going to help light the rest of the room. So, you may consider some ambient light to help fill-in the space.

Ambient light can be created with a soft overhead ceiling-mounted lighting fixture. Consider adding a dimmer so you can control the level of intensity in your bathroom lighting.

Don’t Forget About Natural Lighting!

A skylight or window can breathe some natural lighting into the space, which can make an afternoon soak in the tub heavenly. A shower in morning light can also give you a little boost of vitamin D to help get you going.

A window can also help your plants thrive and help make the room feel larger and more welcoming.
