Bathroom Design Faux Pas

November 1, 2018

When it comes to bathroom design, there are right and wrong choices. There are design elements that will make your bathroom amazing and elements that will ruin it. Today we’re going to go over some bathroom design ideas that you should avoid at all costs.

There is No Storage Space

Inevitably, bathrooms need storage space. Everything from soaps to toothbrushes, towels, hair-dryers, and more will all be used in your bathroom and you need to find a place to put them.

If you don’t have a place to put them, everything may end up taking up counter space or end up on the floor, which isn’t the best look. Clutter is the enemy of a refined room, and storage space is the cure.

Tiles on Tiles on Tiles

Tiles may have their aesthetic value, but tiles mean one thing. Tiles mean grout. Though larger tiles will help to work against this, grout can ruin the look of even the most beautiful bathroom when it ages. By minimizing or eliminating the amount of grout in your bathroom, you will help keep the space from being overrun with unsightly mold and other issues that grout can bring down the line.

The Materials Aren’t Practical

Though marble may be gorgeous, it’s not the best material for everyone. It can be very delicate and must be maintained regularly to keep it from getting damaged. It’s not practical for a bustling family of five with small children. It’s not practical for families with big, messy dogs. It’s just not for everyone and that’s okay.

There are a ton of materials that look good and stand up to the wear and tear of daily life. Acrylic, for example, is durable and easy to install. Not to mention the fact that it is far more cost-effective than other materials. Sometimes there are just practical options and we can help you find the right one for your home.
