Bathroom Lighting Ideas

February 13, 2018

Remodeling your bathroom can be overwhelming, it seems that there are a million decisions to make, but small and large. Whether you are doing a complete renovation or you are simply updating your current space, changing the lighting can make a huge impact. But there are so many options for lighting in your bathroom, based on preference and functionality. Let’s look at some lighting ideas for renovating or updating your bathroom.

Recessed Lighting

Recessed lighting is a great addition to any room, especially in small areas like a bathroom. By adding recessed lights you are able to brighten and open up the room without making a big impact of the overall aesthetic. Whether you are doing a full renovation, or you are making adjustments to your current bathroom, recessed lighting can usually be added to an existing room without a problem.

Adjustable Lighting

Having your lights on a dimmer in the bathroom is a great idea. Being able to control the brightness of the lighting can come in handy at 3:00am when you’ve got to hit the bathroom. Installing a dimmer is something simple yet noticeable you can do to change the overall functionality of your bathroom.

Vanity Lighting

Changing up your vanity lighting can have a huge impact on your bathrooms appearance and usability. Having vanity lighting that isn’t bright enough can leave you frustrated getting ready in the morning. Dated vanity lights can be replaced for more modern, aesthetically pleasing lights, making your bathroom look and feel how you want it to.

Decorative Lighting

In addition to recessed lighting and good vanity lighting, some bathrooms can benefit from some decorative lighting. If, for example, your bathroom contains a large soaker or jet tub, you might consider installing a small chandelier or other decorative light above the tub for a romantic and spa-like look.

Natural Light

One of the most important light sources you can have in your bathroom is natural light! Having windows in your bathroom can make a small room feel bigger and more open. If your bathroom doesn’t have any windows, and you are renovating, consider adding a window if at all possible. If a window isn’t a possibility, make sure to add some soft lighting to the bathroom to give the illusion of soft, natural light.

When you are updating or renovating a bathroom lighting may be towards the bottom of your list, but it shouldn’t be!
